Terms of use

The short version: it's a free game, play fair, keep your name decent, and don't rely on it for anything that matters.

These terms are between you and MC Software Solutions LLC, which runs this site. By using the site you accept them. How we handle your information is on the privacy page.

Who can play

You need to be at least 13. If you're under the age of majority where you live, check these terms with a parent or guardian.

It's a game

Don't Close the Tab is free and offered as it is. Browsers freeze hidden tabs, notifications get delayed and servers have bad days, so we can't promise a call will ring, that a run will be scored the way you expected, or that the site will be available. Please don't use it to keep yourself awake, to time anything important, or as any kind of alarm. The attention and vigilance tests are games too, not medical or psychological tests. Runs stop at 24 hours, and we'd rather you went to bed.

Names and shared results

If you list a time, you choose a name that anyone can see. It mustn't be offensive, impersonate someone, advertise anything, or contain someone else's personal details. You let us show your name, times and shared results on the site and in the images we make for sharing. We can refuse, hide or remove any name, time or result, at any time and without notice. You can delete yours whenever you like from the privacy page.

Play fair

Don't use scripts, bots or anything else that answers for you, don't try to change how the site scores runs, and don't overload or attack the site. We can flag or remove times that look automated, and block anyone who abuses the site. There are no prizes.

Ads and tips

Ads, once they run, come from Google. A tip through Ko-fi is a gift that gets you nothing in return, apart from our thanks, and Ko-fi's own terms cover the payment.

Our content

The site, its writing, art, sounds and code belong to us. You can link to any page and share your results, but please don't copy the site or its content wholesale.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, we give no warranties about the site, and we aren't liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for anything that happens because a call didn't ring, a run ended or a time was removed. Our total liability to you is limited to US$50. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under laws that can't be waived, including consumer protection laws where you live.

Changes and law

We may change these terms. When we do, we'll update the date at the top, and the new terms apply from then on. These terms are governed by the laws of the U.S. state in which MC Software Solutions LLC is organized, except where the law where you live says otherwise.
